Missing Vowels: Songs — Rules & What Counts

Missing Vowels shows the title of a famous song with every vowel removed. An underscore marks each vowel the title lost.

A song title is often more than one word, so this quiz also marks the spaces. A dot sits in each gap between two words.

"H_T_L · C_L_F_RN__" is HOTEL CALIFORNIA. "H_LL_" is HELLO.

A run lasts three minutes. Name as many songs as you can in that time.

Read the title in the middle of the screen. Each underscore is one vowel and each dot is one space.
Type the title of the song. The game accepts the title as soon as you spell it — you do not press Enter.
You can type the spaces or leave them out. "let it be" and "letitbe" both count.
A correct title scores one point and draws the next song.
Select Skip to draw the next song. A skip costs no point, but it costs time.
The clock starts on your first keystroke, so you can read the first title first.
The game saves your progress. You can close the page and continue within one hour.
Select Review words on the result screen to see every title of the run and its answer.

The pool holds 82 famous songs, from Respect to Espresso. It mixes classic rock, pop, ballads, soul and dance hits.
No two titles in the pool share a pattern, so every puzzle has exactly one answer.
Each run deals the puzzles in a random order, and no pattern repeats inside one run.
Score is one point per song named. Skipped songs score nothing.
The leaderboard ranks the number of songs named in the three minutes.

The five vowels are A, E, I, O and U. Y is a consonant here, so YESTERDAY shows as "Y_ST_RD_Y".
Only the exact spelling counts. The mask shows every consonant, so it tells you the letters the answer needs.
Titles that need a digit or punctuation are not in the pool. The mask can hold letters and spaces only, so Sweet Child o' Mine, Y.M.C.A. and Anti-Hero are left out instead of being misspelled.
A title that only drops a trailing exclamation mark stays in. The pool spells "Uptown Funk".
Capital letters do not matter. "thriller" and "THRILLER" both count.

The shortest titles in the pool have four letters: HALO, ROAR and STAY.
The longest title in the pool is SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT, at 20 letters across four words.
The hardest titles are the ones with many vowels. EASY ON ME shows as "__SY · _N · M_" and keeps four letters of eight.
The pool spans about seven decades of popular music, from the 1960s to the 2020s.
