Odd One Out: Music & Movies — Rules & What Counts
Four titles, one impostor — pop culture edition. Which of these songs is NOT by Queen? Which film did NOT win Best Picture? Who has NEVER played James Bond? Three belong together; one is by the wrong band, the wrong director, or never happened at all.
The traps are the industry's favourite almosts: Back to the Future (produced, not directed, by Spielberg), The Shawshank Redemption (lost Best Picture to Forrest Gump), Henry Cavill (screen-tested for Bond and lost by a hair). Every round ends with the one-line truth.
How to play
Read the question. Then tap the song, film or name that does not belong.
You get one pick for each round. There are no second guesses.
The quiz marks your answer immediately. It also gives one line that explains the answer.
You start with three lives. The hearts in the top bar show the lives that you have.
A correct answer gives one point. A wrong answer costs one life.
A round that costs a life gives no points. The quiz continues with the next round.
The run ends when you lose the third life. It also ends when you play all the rounds.
Select "Review rounds" on the result screen to see each round that you played.
What counts in this quiz
The quiz holds 56 categories — bands, directors, award nights and franchises all rotate in. One run can use all of them.
Credits follow the official record: directing credits (not producing), officially released hits, the six actors of the official Bond series.
Your score is the number of correct answers. The maximum score is 56 — every round in the quiz.
A wrong answer costs one life. You keep the points that you have.
The timer counts up from your first pick. It only separates equal scores on the leaderboard.
What's not included — and why
Producer credits don't count as directing — that's exactly what the Spielberg round tests, so the distinction is applied strictly.
Song rounds ask whose HIT a song was — live covers don't move a song between artists, or half of rock'n'roll would belong to Elvis.
Good to know
The Shawshank Redemption lost Best Picture to Forrest Gump in 1995 — then spent decades at #1 on IMDb's all-time list as consolation.
AC/DC's Young brothers were born in Glasgow, emigrated to Sydney as kids, and founded the most famous Australian band in history.
Sean Connery was a bodybuilder and coffin polisher before Bond — producers picked him over the objections of Ian Fleming, who wanted David Niven.
