Frequently Asked Questions
Getting started
Is TRIVI.GG free?
Yes. Every quiz is free, and there is no paid tier. The site pays for itself with advertising.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play every quiz as a guest. An account keeps your results on every device and puts you on the leaderboards.
How do I start a quiz?
Pick a quiz from the home page or from all quizzes. Choose a mode, then press Start. The quiz begins at once.
What is a mode?
A mode changes what a quiz asks about the same set of items. The world countries set has a map mode, a capitals mode and a flags mode.
How do I play a quiz?
Most quizzes ask you to name every item in a set. Type an answer and press Enter. A correct answer appears on the map or grid at once. You do not need to click the input box first — just start typing.
Answers and rules
Where do I find the rules for a quiz?
Press the information button in the quiz header. It shows what the quiz includes, what it excludes, and why.
My answer was correct, but the quiz rejected it. Why?
Each item has a written list of accepted spellings. If your spelling is not on that list, the quiz rejects it. This is a gap in the list, not a rule — please report it and we will add the spelling.
Does spelling have to be exact?
Close spellings are accepted when they are on the item's list. The site does not measure how similar your answer is, because that method marks wrong answers correct.
Why does the world quiz say 197 countries?
The United Nations has 193 members and 2 observer states, which gives 195. This site also counts Taiwan and Kosovo. The countries reference list explains the difference and shows every entry.
Why is England not a country in the quiz?
England is part of the United Kingdom, so the quiz holds the United Kingdom only. The quiz also leaves out dependent territories such as Greenland and Puerto Rico.
Can I see all the answers to a quiz?
Yes. Each reference list holds the full answer set for a quiz, with the accepted alternatives.
Scores and leaderboards
How is my score calculated?
Your score is the count of correct answers. The quiz records your time as well. A wrong guess costs no points, except in modes that state otherwise in the rules.
Are my results saved if I do not sign in?
Yes. Guest results are saved to your browser's session. If you create an account later, the site moves those results to it.
How do the daily quizzes work?
A new puzzle starts each day at 17:00 CET. Everyone gets the same puzzle that day. Your streak counts the days you solve in a row, and it resets when you miss a day.
Why am I not on the leaderboard?
Leaderboards show signed-in players only. Sign in, then play the quiz once to appear.
Technical and accessibility
Which browsers work?
Current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. The site needs JavaScript, and the map quizzes need WebGL.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Every quiz works on a phone. On a typed quiz the prompt stays above the keyboard while you type.
Can I play with the keyboard only?
Typed quizzes need the keyboard only. Some quizzes ask you to click a place on a map, and those need a pointer.
Is there a dark mode?
Yes. Use the theme button in the top bar. The site remembers your choice.
How do I delete my account?
Email general@trivi.gg from your account address, or use the contact form. We remove or anonymise your data. See the privacy policy.
